Designing calm before the chaos.

SoulSync is a hybrid emotional regulation system for parents of children aged 3-7. Designed to help families build emotional understanding together through play, not instruction.
The product combines a behavior-based physical activity kit with a lightweight digital companion app. Parents answer guided questions about their child's emotional patterns; the system identifies dominant emotional traits and delivers a personalized kit with activity cards, sensory tools, parent prompts, and story materials.
Scope of Work

Problem I solve
Parents of children aged 3–7 struggle to consistently support emotional regulation for themselves and their children during everyday emotional challenges - tantrums, resistance, emotional shutdown - in real time.
Three core gaps defined the problem space:
Awareness without regulation - Parents know what to do, but can't access that knowledge under emotional load or when in pressure.
No pause between trigger and reaction - Conflicts escalate too fast for reflection or reset.
Children are excluded from emotional learning - Every existing solution focuses on correcting the parent alone. Children aged 3–7 are in the phase when emotional patterns are actively forming - are left out of the process entirely.
Existing solutions
The entire market is built around awareness, not regulation. All reviewed products focus on content consumption (tips, articles, reflections, reminders).
Parenting is treated as an individual responsibility. Most tools are designed only for parents. Children are not included as active participants in emotional learning.
Digital-first solutions dominate early childhood emotional support. Nearly all competitors rely on screen-based experiences, despite research showing young children (3–7) learn emotions best through physical, relational interaction.

Solution
SoulSync is a personalized emotional regulation system built around one core insight: children don't learn emotional regulation through correction - they learn it through shared, repeated, play-based experiences with a trusted caregiver.
How it works in 3 steps:
1. Understand - Parents answer guided behavioral questions in the app. Based on responses, the system identifies the child's dominant emotional traits from a framework of 15 mapped traits specific to ages 3–7.
2. Engage - A personalized physical kit is delivered to the family containing activity cards, sensory objects, emotion tokens, story prompts, and a parent guide - all mapped to the child's specific traits. Activities are designed so parent and child do them together, not separately.
3. Reflect - The digital companion tracks progress, sends daily guided prompts, and helps parents recognize patterns and celebrate small emotional wins over time.

One system. Four ways it works for your family.
SoulSync isn't a collection of features - it's a connected experience. Each part of the system knows what the others are doing, so parents always have the right tool at the right moment.
A short behavioral questionnaire surfaces your child's emotional traits - then AI maps them to a kit built for exactly who your child is.
Every small win earns points. Every milestone tells you which developmental stage your child just crossed - so growth becomes visible, not invisible.
Most parenting apps live on screens. SoulSync uses the screen only to get out of it. Every interaction points back to time spent together, not time spent scrolling.
Stubborn? Sensitive? Easily overwhelmed? Every kit is assembled around one child's specific trait - so parents get tools that actually match the moment they're in.

What I Designed here
User Research Lead you - Planned and conducted in-depth interviews with 15 parents of children aged 3 to 7, and 2 child development doctors. Structured the conversation guide to surface emotional triggers, daily breakdowns, and caregiver stress patterns.
Problem Framing - Synthesized raw interview data using affinity mapping to identify the 3 core gaps: awareness without regulation, no real-time pause, and children excluded from emotional learning. This framing became the foundation of the entire product direction.
Ideation & Concept Direction - Participated in exploring and eliminating early concepts (digital-only, parent-only tools) before aligning on the hybrid physical + digital model - directly informed by research findings.
Experience Design - Designed key interaction flows including parent onboarding, behavioral questionnaire, and trait-to-kit recommendation journey. Ensured the digital layer felt low-friction and accessible to stressed, time-poor parents.

Challenge I Faced
Getting honest answers about emotional parenting moments.
Parents are often guarded when discussing moments they feel guilty about - losing patience, yelling, over-correcting. Standard interview questions produced polished, socially acceptable answers, not real ones.
How I solved it:
Reframed interview questions around scenarios ("Tell me about the last time bedtime went badly") instead of emotions ("How do you feel when your child throws a tantrum?"). Scenario-based questions bypassed self-censorship and surfaced the real, raw moments we needed to design for.

Impact the product created
A 14-day pilot with one parent-child pair (child aged 4, identified stubbornness trait) using just the Star Jar activity produced three clear behavioural shifts:
Fewer reminders needed - Daily routines like cleanup and transitions became smoother. The parent reported noticeably fewer resistance episodes within the first week.
Improved emotional expression in the child - The child began articulating feelings through the activity structure rather than reacting through frustration or withdrawal - a meaningful shift for a 4-year-old.
Parent felt empowered, not overwhelmed - Having a simple, guided activity gave the caregiver clarity and confidence. The feedback reinforced a core design principle: parents don't need complex tools - they need clear, low-effort guidance that works.
